KLA-Tencor: Susquehanna Ups to Hold; Special Confirms Industry Maturity
Mon, 27 Oct 2014 18:07:00 GMT
Barrons.com – Sharse of chip equipment maker KLA-Tencor (KLAC) are down $1.05, or 1.4%, at $74.85, despite a somewhat upbeat note this morning from Susquehanna’s Mehdi Hosseini following KLA’s announcement last week of a leveraged recapitalization that will pay out $16.50 per share in special one-time cash dividend. Hosseini raised his rating on the shares to Neutral from “Negative,” writing that “After contemplating over the weekend about KLAC's leveraged recapitalization announced last Thur, we believe the prudent action is to upgrade the stock.” To Hosseini, the announcement is a “vindication” that the equipment industry has matured: Overall WFE spending in CY14 is on track to increase 10-12% to ~$33B vs. KLAC's rev growth of 2-3% Looking forward, we expect normalized WFE spending of $32B +/- 5%. KLAC's announced recap (borrowing 3x est CY14 EBITDA) to pay a special dividend while also increasing its buy-back program is consistent with such view as it simply means industry has matured.
